Rockville, IN - Residents in Parke County are excited and looking to the future after the beginning of a multi-million dollar project that will bring some much needed changes to the town of Rockville.

On Wednesday, officials held a groundbreaking ceremony for the $6.3 million dollar Howard/Market project.

The project is a two phase construction plan that will connect US 41 to US 36 through the intersection of Howard Avenue and Market Street.

Both phases will include pavement reconstruction, sidewalks, curbs and enhanced safety features.

Area residents say this is a project that's been a long time coming.

"This is a very heavily traveled corridor. It connects the two highways, it's got both schools access off of it, it's one of the most heavily traveled areas in town. And it's needed some repairs, a lot of repairs for a long time," said Liddy Dowdwright, Rockville Town Council President.

Council members began the planning process for the project back in 2012. Officials are anticipating the project's completion for Fall 2019.
